Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. It helps website owners understand how visitors interact with their site, including how many visitors arrive at the site, what pages they view, and how long they stay on the site. It is a free tool used by businesses and individuals to track and analyze their website traffic data to make informed decisions about their online marketing efforts.
In order to add it to your Squarespace site, you first need to generate the code in your Analytics account.
To get the Google Analytics tracking code, once you have logged into the Analytics account, follow these steps:
- Click on the Admin button in the bottom left corner.
- Select the desired account and property in which you want to add the tracking code. If you don’t have a property created yet, you will have to create it now.
- Click on Tracking Info > Tracking Code.
- Here you will find the entire code snippet. For Squarspace you will need only the ID, which looks something like this if you are using GA3 – ‘UA-XXXXX-Y’. If you are using GA4, it will look like this: G-XXXXXXXXX
